The software and gateway services are provided by OZ. With a pre-loaded IM Client on the Nokia 6800 phone, T-Mobile USA subscribers are now able to access the four major instant messaging (IM) providers (AOL, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo!) - via one device.
The OZ Mobile IM Gateway provides the application-level billing models for mobile IM, supporting both post-paid and pre-paid billing. It also provides dynamic IM protocol conversion to proprietary IM protocols when needed, ensures the efficient use of multiple wireless transports, and ensures IM services' compliance with all different flavors of the OMA IMPS (previously known as Wireless Village) specifications.
The Nokia 6800 messaging phone was the first in a series of Nokia's unique messaging devices featuring the fold-out keyboard for easy and efficient messaging. The companies say the Nokia 6800 phone enhances the wireless experience by allowing subscribers to quickly send out text messages, and chat with their favorite IM service.
"T-Mobile is taking the mobile instant messaging experience to new heights by providing T-Mobile Nokia 6800 users with an innovative, unique and flexible instant messaging tool to help them keep pace with their active lives," said Skuli Mogensen, CEO of OZ. "We are extremely pleased to continue working with T-Mobile, providing T-Mobile Nokia 6800 users with the most advanced mobile instant messaging experience available. We are equally proud to be working with the four largest IM providers to deliver this coveted service."
