Skype 1.0 out for Pocket PC
The new version brings the capability to place phone calls from handhelds to POTS (Plain Old Telephone System), i.e. landlines and mobile phones. The service is called SkypeOut, and works in a prepay way, with the user buying credits. SkypeOut Global Rate (a selection of 22 countries) pricing is 1.7 Euro cents per minute (approx USD$0.02).

The version also had a few design changes, a new colour for the user interface (blue instead of the original red) and minor changes and fixes.

This release comes immediately after Skype annoucement of support for Mac OS X. Skype for Pocket PC enables cross-platform voice calls to other Skype users running Skype for Windows, Skype for Linux or Skype for Mac OS X. All Skype software is free, and Skype users control their online presence and contact lists, and have many options to customize their overall Skype experience.

Skype for Pocket PC Version 1.0 works on any PDA running MS Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC software with a 400 MHz XScale processor and equipped with WiFi. A headset is recommended.
