Nokia unveils its first GPS product
Nokia has announced its first GPS product. The Nokia Wireless GPS Module LD-1W connects to a compatible mobile phone, PC, or PDA using Bluetooth wireless technology, with a maimum range of up to 10 meters (30 feet). The module works with a number of different applications for mobile devices, including Wayfinder Mobile Navigator, which is included in the sales package along with a 3-month license.

The Nokia GPS Module LD-1W supports the Bluetooth 1.1 specification (SPP Serial Port Profile), and interfaces with applications using the NMEA 0183 v. 3.0, passing the position in the WGS84 format. Acquisition times around 60/45/10 seconds (cold/warm/hot start), supporting to up 12 parallel channels.

The package contains a Nokia Wireless GPS Module LD-1W, a Nokia Battery BL-5C, the Nokia Mobile Charger LCH-12, protective case and carrying straps. It also comes with a 32 MB MultiMediaCard (MMC) including Wayfinder Mobile Navigator application with 3-month license, Mobile Location Framework (MLFW) software.

With a battery life of up to 10 hours, the GPS Module LD-1W weighs only 62 g (including battery) and measures 78.4 x 45.4 x 16.5 mm.
