Scanzoon is a new service from Scanbuy that allows users to compare prices by taking a picture of a product's barcode and downloading price comparison information from Amazon and PriceGrabber. The software is currently available for Symbian UIQ, Series 60 and palmOne Treo.
Scanbuy's Optical Intelligence is the technology that reads and translates barcodes on-device through the use of low-cost CMOS imager based digital cameras. It is available for camera phones, PDA with camera add-on and Web cams. This technology is designed to be used in both business and consumer environments.
Optical Intelligence is primarily designed to be embedded in many levels on the handset architecture - on the chipset, within the software platform or on top of the Operating System. The barcode reader is also available to third party developers as SDKs to be integrated into their existing applications.
