Last night (11 November) we had the last Wellington Windows Mobile User Group meeting of the year. This time the event was hosted by Microsoft New Zealand, and the content was Windows Media Center XP, Windows Media Player 10, new Windows Mobile Devices and upcoming Windows Mobile Devices.
Jay Templeton talked to us about the Windows Media Center XP and Windows Media Player 10. This was probably his last presentation for Microsoft, since tomorrow is his last day with the company, after something like nine years.
Then Renee (Duo) talked a little about memory cards, different models and formats.
I then talked about the Windows Portable Media Center (PMC) device, showing of the Creative Zen (read our review . After this I continued on to show new and upcoming devices, with live demonstrations of the new Harrier Pocket PC Phone Edition connected to their new 3G (CDMA EVDO based) wireless network (available now from Telecom New Zealand), and showing the i-mate Jam (coming out before Christmas from Vodafone New Zealand), and also going through the Windows Mobile Smartphone Motorola MPX220 and the Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition Motorola MPX200. Both these modes should be available from Vodafone New Zealand around March 2005.
For the prizes, our other Microsoft MVP Darryl Burling presented two copies of 121224 Pocket DVD Wizard, two 128MB SD cards with readers (from Duo), a few (around 10!) Windows Mobile jackets (courtesy of Microsoft), and finally a brand new Harrier Pocket PC Phone Edition ready to use on the new Telecom Network.
