Belkin heats up the VoIP market
The callEverywhere SoftPhone is computer software that allows users to make VoIP (Voice Over IP) calls by using a a broadband Internet connection, PC microphone, and PC speaker. The SoftPhone, the newest addition to Belkin's callEverywhere Broadband Phone Service, offers free calls to callEverywhere customers along with free email and voice mail.

The SoftPhone also works in conjunction with Belkin's callEverywhere Broadband Phone Service. callEverywhere customers can take their callEverywhere service with them when they travel. With the SoftPhone, they can make and receive phone calls on their computer as if they were at home. For an additional charge, users can upgrade to a service plan that allows them to make and receive phone calls to and from any standard phone number. The SoftPhone is currently available as a free software download from everywhere.net
"The Belkin SoftPhone is especially appealing to business travelers," explains Eric Tong, VP Marketing and Product Development. "Business travelers already have their laptops with them, so making and receiving calls to and from anywhere in the world will be both convenient and free."

If the user is not keen on using a desktop or laptop for calls, the Belkin Message Manager (pictured) connects a standard home telephone to the cable or DSL Internet service, and from there connecting to the callEverywhere service.

The callEverywhere SoftPhone plans free email and voice mail, 3-way conference calling, call holding. The plans start at US$9.95 (including 500 minutes of calls in the US and Canada) or US$19.95 for unlimited calls in the IS and Canada. Both plans offer the user a US based phone number. The callEverywhere service is presently available in 34 metro areas in the United States.
