The new service called Ruta MoviStar integrates a Bluetooth GPS with a smartphone and an on-line navigation system, accessible through the operator's mobile network. The service is priced on a flat free of 10 Euros per month. The bundle includes the navigation software required.
Telefónica Móviles España is deploying the system developed by Wayfinder with its own brand. The service will be available from March 2005, and covers all European cities.
The system offers up to date information with maps, points of interest and soon traffic information. The software provides voice directions, estimated arrival time, traffic jams and re-route.
The company is planning to offer additional services, including alerts for when the driver is close to a radar or to a black (dangerous) spot on the road. It will also buzz and alarm if the user goes over the speed limit set.
The package, including a Bluetooth GPS and the navigation software will be available for Symbian devices (Nokia serie 70 and 60, Motorola A920 and A925, SonyEricsson P800 and P900, Siemens SX1 and Sendo X). In a later stage the company is planning to release updated software, compatible with Windows Mobile devices, including the TSM 500 (Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition) and the TSM 520 (Windows Mobile Smartphone, pictured).
The bundle costs 100 Euros. The 10 Euros monthly fee includes the service itself and the GPRS traffic needed for the information.
