Magix announces software to convert CD and MP3 to mobile phone ringtones
Magix has announced the MAGIX Ringtone Maker, a software that lets consumers personalise mobile phones by creating their own music cellphone ringtones from music hits without paying recurring subscription or download fees. The software converts unlimited ringtones from CDs, MP3s and custom recordings into high-quality ringtones that can then be uploaded to a mobile phone.

According to IDC Research, U.S. consumers downloaded 4.8 million ringtones in 2002 orUS $16.6 million worth. IDC projects that in 2005, these consumers will download 30 million ringtones or US$404 million in sales.

Also bundled with the software are over 500 ringtone music loops and other sounds. With the recording function, consumers can also create their own unique ringtones on 4 tracks for customised music, holiday greetings or birthday/anniversary announcements.

The Ringtone Maker can import music from CDs or load MP3, OGG Vorbis, WAV and WMA files. The software will also convert existing ringtones into MP3, WAV, AMR and ADPCM.

The Magix Ringtone Maker works with newer mobile phones supporting ADPCM formats such as MP3, WAV, AMR, or SMAF. The software will be available in late March for US$19.99.
