New Zealand based company Globility is offering a free trial of the Globility Hosted Optimiser (GHO) service. THE GHO improves the performance of mobile data networks for Microsoft Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices. The GHO is powered by AcceleNet software from Intelligent Compression Technologies. The trial will initially run on Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices, with versions for Windows Mobile Smartphone and Windows laptops coming later.
The solution is designed to compress web content and ISP e-mail so that content uses less of the mobile network capacity, costing less in mobile network charges, and providing a significant improvement in speed. A small piece of software (the AcceleNet client) is installed on the user's Windows Mobile Pocket PC and communicates over the mobile data network and the Internet with the Globility Hosted Optimiser (GHO) server using the AcceleNet server software.
Any e-mail or web page requests from the Pocket PC go first to the GHO server which fetches the data on your behalf from the e-mail or web servers elsewhere on the Internet. The data comes back from the e-mail or web server to the GHO which compresses the data and then passes it back to the Pocket PC where the data is uncompressed and displayed.
This trial is offered to users who register with the company and is on a first come first served basis. Once the number of trialists reach ther limit, Globility will start accepting registration of interest for their subsequent commercial service. After you register you will be e-mailed instructions within a few days on how to load the software on your Windows Mobile Pocket PC and start using it.
