palmOne introduces the Tungsten E2
The new tungsten E2 handheld is an updated version of palmOne's Tungsten E, which the company says has now shipped more than 2 million units.

With the additions of a brighter color screen, flash memory, Bluetooth and a more powerful battery, the Tungsten E2 provides more features at a US249 price tag.

The Tungsten E2 brings a brighter 320x32 colour display, and incorporates 32MB of non-volatile flash memory with 26MB actual storage capacity. Even if the battery happens to run out the memory is still protected and will not be erased. It is based on a 200MHz Intel XScale processor.

The built-in Bluetooth capability allows synchronisation with a PC or Mac, and when used with a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone it allows the user to send and receive emails and browse the web.

Users can expand the Tungsten E2 memory by adding a MMC or SD card. the card can be used to store images or mp3 songs, turning the handheld into a mp3 player. Using a SD card directly from a digital camera is not a problem and the Tungsten E2 will read its contents. The device supports the SDIO standard, that allows SD sized accessories to be used by simply inserting them into the SD slot.

The handheld comes bundled with DataViz's Documents To Go software, which allows full-editing capabilities of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents directly on the handheld.
