metromesh, an Australian based licensed telecommunications carrier, has launched a metro Wi-Fi network using RoamAD technology for infrastructure-mesh metro Wi-Fi networks.
The company began offering wireless services on its metro Wi-Fi network in downtown Perth, the capital of Australia’s largest state, Western Australia.
metromesh licensed RoamAD’s wireless networking platform and installed the required software modules directly onto multi-radio network nodes. metromesh assembled the nodes from industry standard commodity hardware in accordance with the RoamAD reference design. The network was then deployed following RoamAD’s infrastructure-mesh network architecture.
“We were thrilled to license RoamAD’s software for our metro Wi-Fi network. The result is that we have a more cost-effective, highly-flexible network on which we can provide carrier-grade services, including mobile VOIP and high-speed data, to our customers” said Glenn Farrow, Managing Director, metromesh.
metromesh is scheduled to expand the initial network to cover half of downtown Perth by the end of May 2005, and provide 80% coverage by the end of the year.
