LapLink Software receives investment from Microsoft

Posted on 10-May-2005 23:35 | Filed under: News

Laplink Software LLC, developer of connectivity software, announced that Microsoft has made an investment in the company.

"We believe this expanded relationship with Microsoft speaks to our accomplishments as well as our potential," said Thomas Koll, CEO of Laplink. "Our product line and the innovative technology that supports it clearly sets us apart from our competitors. New releases such as Laplink Everywhere 4 and ShareDirect are examples of the direction our core technologies are leading us."

Laplink's most recent release, Laplink Everywhere 4 (read our review), is a browser-based remote access solution that combines sophisticated remote control functionality with a versatile web interface that provides "anytime, anywhere" remote PC access. ShareDirect, released a few months ago, extends Windows Explorer functionality by allowing PC users to create private, secure, direct (peer-to-peer) connections across the Internet.

"We anticipate a rewarding relationship with Microsoft," added Koll who, prior to becoming CEO of Laplink, was a Microsoft Vice President responsible for Microsoft's relationships with telecommunication companies, ISPs, and network equipment providers around the world. A German native, Koll also served as country manager for Microsoft Germany.

In addition to Laplink Everywhere and ShareDirect, Laplink's current product line-up includes PCmover and Laplink Gold 12. PCmover is a simple PC migration tool that moves files, settings, and even applications from an old PC to a new one. Laplink Gold 12 remains the Laplink "flagship" product, helping IT professionals and advanced PC users administer comprehensive remote support.

Laplink will continue to focus on developing innovations in remote access and remote control, instant networking, and file transfer and synchronisation technology.
