Navigon releases OnCourse Navigator 5 for Pocket PC
Posted on 20-Jul-2005 01:47 | Tags Filed under: News

Navigon and Easy PocketNAV are introducing the OnCourse Navigator 5 (OCN 5), a GPS navigation software for Pocket PC devices.

According to research firm Canalys, Navigon holds more than 30 percent of the current market share in the mobile navigation industry in Europe and the Middle East,

OCN 5 prices will begin at US$79. The software comes as a DVD set with maps of North America that will fit on a 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB memory card and maps of Puerto Rico, Alaska, Europe, and six Persian Gulf countries. OCN 5 also includes maps of Mexico.

The European map provides four additional countries including Hungary, Slovenia, Poland, and Greece. These maps are available on the DVD and can be activated at any time for instant access so users no longer have to wait for delivery. Existing customers of OCN 4 receive a free upgrade to OCN 5 together with new maps and new features.
The new online tool, "My OCN," allows the user to create a user history that can be accessed and changed at any time. "My OCN" also enables the user to download new map styles and start screens.

Other features of the software include SpeedInfo, SpeedWarning and RoadInfo information. The SpeedInfo feature shows users the speed limit and SpeedWarning warns drivers when they are exceeding speed limits with visual and acoustic alerts. OCN 5 RoadInfo is a feature that enables the user to view highway and interstate signs on their Pocket PC exactly as they appear.

Integration with Pocket PC (MS-Outlook) allows the user to navigate directly from their contact database without re-typing addresses.
