Mobile Crossing has begun shipping the WayPoint 200, a GPS navigation system based on Windows Mobile Pocket PC platform that helps drivers find and reach their destination, and includes traffic and weather reports and numerous other features.
Besides real-time, one-touch traffic and weather reports (from Weather Underground), WayPoint 200 offers spoken directions and a program called TurnAlert, which flashes a lamp in the driver's peripheral vision to signal coming turns even under low visibility conditions.
The all-in-one WayPoint solution requires almost no set-up out of the box, with pre-loaded software and a Bluetooth GPS receiver ready to go.
The WayPoint 200 is also small and light enough (six ounces) to carry around or move from vehicle to vehicle. Its lithium battery offers up to 8 hours of power.
The device comes with 64MB RAM (41MB free for user), 32MB ROM for OS and 128MB flash memory. It is powered by an Intel XScale PXA 260 CPU running at 400MHz. The touch screen display measures 3.5" (320X240 pixels) and uses a NVIDIA MQ1188 video controller.
WayPoint 200 comes with built-in, full color moving navigation maps powered by NAVTEQ, USB cable, vehicle mounts, and home charger and cradle. Other features include Compact Flash and SD (Secure Digital) slots, an IrDA Port (infrared), and a USB SyncPort.
The WayPoint 200 is priced at US$749 with regional maps and US$799 with US national maps.
