Agile Mobile is announcing a change in its policy that will see users paying a monthly fee of €2.99 (depending on location) for the use of their multi-platform IM program.
Accoding to the company, Agile Messenger is currently the most widely used and feature rich instant messaging and communication tool for mobile devices, with versions for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphones, and Symbian devices.
Agile Mobile says that in order to make Agile Messenger better and to be able to continue adding new features it has become essential that they start charging a small monthly license fee. The information available is it has become necessary for the company to expand the development resources and with that comes a substantial increase in overhead.
The plan is to begin charging a license fee of a maximum of €2.99 per month, charged directly to the users' phone bill. The exact monthly charge may vary from country to country depending on the company's agreement with local mobile operators but will never exceed €2.99, or the local currency equivalent.
The start date for billing will be different for different countries, again depending on agreement with the local mobile operators.
Agile Messenger will inform users before charges are applied and will ask for explicit permission to subscribe to the new licensing terms. The software will also give an additional 7 day free trial when subscribtions are created, during which period users can cancel with no charge. If the user have not been asked to confirm the subscription then the account is not yet being charged.
