Another big name joins the mobile wave, after MSN, Yahoo! and Google. America Online, Inc. is launching AOLMobile.com, a personalized mobile shopping portal that allows users to find, compare and buy the latest mobile phones and cellular service plans.

The company also announced the mobile extension of the new AOL.com portal. This new Mobile AOL.com WAP 2 portal gives mobile users wireless access to AOL's content and services including features like My Mobile Dashboard, designed to give mobile users a central place to easily manage cell phone features and preferences, such as IM Forwarding or Alerts and Reminders.

By registering their phone in the site, users can also identify and select relevant services and download features like ringtones and wallpapers.

With Mobile AOL.com WAP 2 Portal users will have access to AOL Mobile Search Services, that automatically format search results to the user's mobile screen with clickable hyperlinks that make mobile search as actionable and useful as search on the desktop. The service provides mobile users with access to the AOL Search, Pinpoint Shopping search and AOL Yellow Pages services to help them quickly find whatever they may need.

News and weather information are also present, including the top stories in five categories: US, International, Business, Entertainment and Sports. Users can check current weather conditions and see a one-week forecast by simply entering their zip code or city and state.

Other features include AOL Pictures with access to user's stored photo albums and pictures through the mobile phone. The AOL Mail service is also available, and AIM Mail users will be able to access the new free Web-mail service from America Online in the near future.

To access the services users can visit www.aolmobile.com from the desktop browser. The Mobile version of AOL.com can be accessed by typing www.aol.com direclty into a WAP 2 mobile browser, but PalmOne Treo650 users should enter mobile.aol.com instead.
