South America's Largest Mobile Carrier Selects Intellisync as Wireless Email Provider
Posted on 18-Aug-2005 11:06 | Tags Filed under: News

Intellisync Corporation has been selected as the mobility platform for Vivo, the largest operator of mobile telephony in the Southern Hemisphere, and one of the largest CDMA carriers in the world.

Vivo, part of the Portugal Telecom and Telefonica Moviles groups, will license Intellisync mobile software to deliver push-based wireless email and data synchronization capabilities across a wide range of mobile device types available to its more than 27 million customers in Brazil.

The company is currently ranked as No. 10 of the largest global mobile carriers by RCR Wireless News with an estimated market share of 45% in Brazil.

Vivo Smartmail, 'Powered by Intellisync', allows users to wirelessly access personal and enterprise e-mails based on Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, POP3 or IMAP servers. The Intellisync technology allows continuous bidirectional synchronization, ensuring that any change in a user's handheld device (including contacts, email, calendar items and tasks) is automatically synchronized with the data on the user's personal computer.

The solution will initially be released with the following PDAs offered by the operator, including the Harrier (Audiovox XV6600, read our review) based on the Microsoft Windows Mobile for Pocket PC and the Palm Treo 600.

"One of the advantages is that corporate users can integrate additional applications within the same device," added Mr. Sole. According to Mr. Sole, the initial target market will be large corporations. "After that, we will lead to offer the solution to SME's (small and medium size enterprises) and close to the end of the year we will target the independent professionals," he said.
