Motorola and Apple Introduce the ROKR Mobile Phone with iTunes Support
Apple, Motorola and Cingular Wireless today are making the first mobile phone with iTunes available. The phone allows users to load up to 100 songs from the iTunes jukebox on their Mac or PC to their mobile phone. Transfer time is 30 seconds for each 4MB of music.

Apple’s iTunes software on the Motorola ROKR features easy to use menus, simple navigation and playback, and the ability to simply switch from phone to music and back again with the push of a dedicated music key.

The new tri-band GSM/GPRS (Class 10) Motorola ROKR has a color display for viewing album art and features built-in dual-stereo speakers, as well as stereo headphones that also serve as a mobile headset with microphone. Users can also connect the phone to a Bluetooth headset for voice calls or transfer music via Bluetooth from a PC or Mac.

Uses will also have vibrating motion with music and games, plus an integrated digital VGA camera with 4 x digital zoom, with video clip capture and playback capabilities. The phone can download and run J2ME applications and comes pre-loaded with some J2ME games.

Estimated talktime is up to 260-560 minutes, with a standby time of up to 160-230 hours - numbers vary depending on location and roaming. Music can play for up to 15 hours using wired headset or up to 6 hours using the Surround Sound feature.

Music fans can randomly autofill or manually fill the mobile phone with playlists from their favorite music, audiobooks and Podcasts from their iTunes library via a USB connection. The Motorola ROKR pauses music automatically when users take a call and offers the ability to listen to music while messaging with friends or snapping a photo.

The new Motorola ROKR (pronounced “Rocker”) is available in the following markets:

  • USA - exclusively with Cingular
  • U.K. – available first with Carphone Warehouse, expected in mid-September and then with O2, followed by Orange, Virgin Mobile, BT Mobile and other top retailers through September and October
