The Intermec 761 has been approved for operation on the Cingular Wireless network in the United States. The rugged Intermec 761 Pocket PC supports voice and data transmission via GSM/GPRS technology.
With this certification, Cingular customers now can use an Intermec 761 handheld computer to make voice calls, send data and manage documents. The 761 also operates in the 850MHz band, providing increased coverage and network availability, and employs Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition software for telephone-like operation.
Designed to withstand daily use in harsh environments, the new Intermec 761 device features A-GPS location capabilities, and a range of communications options, including optional WLAN (wireless LAN) and Bluetooth.
The device measures 191 mm (7.53 in.) x 90 mm (3.5 in.) x 50 mm (1.97 in.) and weighs 483-568 grams (17-20 oz.) depending on options. It is based on anIntel Xscale processor running at 400 MHz and comes with 64 MB RAM and 64 MB Flash ROM. Memory can be expanded through Secure Digital (SD) or CompactFlash (CF) Type II cards.
It also includes a built-in barcode scanner and it can withstand a 5 foot drop, 26 times to concrete.
