Yes, it seems that all rumours and talk about Palm planning the launch of a Microsoft Windows Mobile powered handheld device is almost confirmed - now we just need the official press release from Palm announcing this new model.
In the meantime the technology website Engadget has posted pictures of a Treo 700w sample device.
The Palm Treo 700w runs Windows Mobile 5.0, comes with 64MB RAM and Bluetooth. The device shown is branded with the Verizon Wireless logo, and connected to its 3G CDMA EVDO network.
The short article does not describe the memory well - most new Windows Mobile 5 devices have low RAM but a much bigger flash ROM to allow for persistent storage use. The new memory balance provides users with security by storing all data and installed programs in flash memory, preventing data loss in case of battery failure.
Also shown is the new Teo 700w in use with an external Socket SD Wi-Fi card, meaning that at least this model does not include built-in Wi-Fi.
