British mobile operator O2 has announced plans to launch Japanese NTT DoCoMo's i-mode service in the UK market starting 1 October 2005.
The service, which will be offered over O2's 3G WCDMA and GPRS network, marks the thirteenth market for i-mode, following Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Australia, Israel, and Russia.
Initially the service will be available on NEC N411i, NEC N343i, Samsung S500i and Samsung Z320i handsets. The service includes around 100 sites at the time of launch, available in English, i-mode mail availability and MMS transmission compatibility.
