SRS Labs, Inc. has announced plans to release a specialized version of its SRS WOW XT stereo and bass audio enhancement suite for Symbian OS-based handsets using Texas Instrument (TI's) OMAP 2 platform. Working with the TI team, SRS has developed a mobile solution that delivers an advanced audio enhancement implementation for these mobile devices.

SRS WOW XT is an audio enhancement suite that provides 3D stereo and bass enhancement that overcomes the physical limitations of the small speaker drivers found in wireless phones.

The low-level, integrated solution reduces time to market for OEMs and delivers superior sound quality and features to TI OMAP processor based handsets running Symbian OS.

"As music, gaming and video applications for mobile phones continue to grow, sound quality features are increasingly important for the best user experience," said Markus Tremmel, worldwide manager of TI's Cellular Systems Ecosystem. "With the extended features in SRS WOW XT on the OMAP Platform, TI is able to deliver a new level of enhanced audio experience for consumers."

SRS is licensing this new solution for SRS WOW XT directly to handset makers. The system can enhances the sound quality of music, DVB-H, and video played over the handset's small speaker(s), earphones and handset accessories (such as connected speaker / cradles).
