Vodafone New Zealand has announced the availability of their new Windows Mobile Pocket PC device, the i-mate Jasjar. This is the first in a series of devices providing full support for Microsoft Windows environment while on the move. The i-mate Jasjar is based on the new Windows Mobile 5.0, and allows users to work on Word or Excel documents, view Powerpoint documents or PDFs, send and receive email at the same time as talking on the mobile or conduct a real time video call over a 3G network.
Phil Patel, Vodafone Director of Business Markets, says “Vodafone is at the forefront of business mobility innovation bringing customer’s new and efficient ways of working,” said Patel. “It is unique to Vodafone’s 3G to be able to talk to a colleague from your smart device at the same time as editing a document or see their face while you are talking to them.”
Multiple connectivity options include GPRS, Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN), and Bluetooth.
The clamshell design with 180 degree pivot enables it to easily convert from mini laptop including a 62 key QWERTY keyboard with a 3.6” 640x480 VGA touch screen into Pocket PC.
Powered by a 520MHz Intel processor and with 128MB of permanent memory, the tri-band Pocket PC Phone Edition allows simultaneous voice and data calls. Memory expansion is possible via a SD card slot. For users interested in multimedia the device comes with built-in stereo speakers and headset plug.
The i-mate Jasjar will be offered at initial price of NZ$1,999 (US$1400) and can be purchased from Vodafone retail store or Vodafone accredited IT solution provider.
