Samsung Demoinstrates High Speed Data Mobile Phone with HSDPA
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd is showing a HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access)-based mobile phone, capable of reaching speeds up to 3.6 Mbps.

Web browsing, as well as streaming and downloading of contents, will be demonstrated compared to 1.8 Mbps and 384Kbps. The 3.6 Mbps HSDPA handset allows users to download contents much faster than WCDMA or GSM/GPRS network, even CDMA EV-DO.

The handset is the result of collaborations between Samsung and Qualcomm, using the later's Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM6280 solution.

HSDPA, a new form of mobile broadband, is capable of transmitting data at speeds up to seven times faster than that of WCDMA. The technology brings the promise of DVD-quality movies and interactive multimedia games, with high-speed wireless Internet access comparable to speeds of fixed-line ADSL services.
