Vodafone and Sharp Planning Mobile Phone With VGA Display

Posted on 12-Feb-2006 09:34 | Filed under: News

Vodafone K.K. (Japan) is working in a joint development with Sharp Corporation of a mobile phone equipped with an ultra-high resolution 2.4-inch VGA liquid crystal display (LCD).

VGA (480x640 pixels) LCDs have four times the resolution of current QVGA (240x320) LCDs, making it possible to reproduce visuals and render small characters with more clarity and sharper than before.

A prototype with the VGA LCD will be displayed by Sharp Corporation during the 3GSM World Congress 2006, in Barcelona, Spain.

The VGA handset will be first available in Japan. Nothing is decided about other markets at this point. The companies plan to announce further details of this new mobile phone in the near future.
