Motorola has announced that there will exist a UMTS version of its Q device family. The first Q is expected to ship with CDMA EVDO capabilities later on Q1 2006, with the UMTS version expected to be available for operator trials in late Q4 2006.
The Q device family is a smartphone based on Microsoft Windows Mobile software which delivers corporate mobile messaging support out of the box with Exchange 2003, and is also optimized for a variety of third party email solutions.
The press information does not add any new information regarding the device. The manufacturer has been showing off the device for months now, but no firm date or operators commitments have been disclosed.
