Telecom New Zealand Bringing Themes to Mobile Phones

Posted on 14-Mar-2006 08:34 | Filed under: News

Telecom New Zealand and Qualcomm Incorporated are working on a customised user interface (UI) support, based on Qualcomm's uiOne platform.

To be known as "Themes," the uiOne offering will initially be made available to Telecom's New Zealand customers with the Sanyo 7500 handset.

"Themes" represents an evolution of wallpapers and animated screensavers, allowing users to change both the background and the icons on the phone's three main screens: front/standby; main menu; and my favorites. "Themes" will cost NZ$4.95 to download.

According to Qualcomm, Telecom New Zealand is the first operator with plans to deploy the uiOne platform in the Asia Pacific region.

Telecom New Zealand sees this deployment of the uiOne offering as a logical next step in continuing to offer next generation of mobile services to New Zealanders.

uiOne is based on the Brew platform solution, and aims to enhance the wireless experience for consumers and create new services and revenue streams for the mobile marketplace. Other solutions available from Qualcomm in this area are deliveryOne for differentiated and tightly integrated in-network support and delivery of advanced wireless data content and services; and marketOne for a quick-to- market, hosted, scalable content delivery service that includes rich media titles, flexible management and monetization, content provider settlement and business intelligence services.
