Using their recently announced C7 processor architecture and a new chipset CN700 Northbridge the mini-ITX board is loaded with features users would expect from a larger board.
This includes up to 1GB DDR II @ 533/400Mhz; VIA integrated graphics offering MPEG-2 hardware acceleration with VGA and S-Video outputs (LCD and Component output can be supported with add on); VT1625 HDTV chipset offering encoding up to 1080i and 720p output; VT1618 6 channel audio chipset 1x RCA output for digital audio (SPDIF) and Line-Out, Line-In, Mic-In.
The new series also supports Gigabit LAN, 2x SATA II support with RAID(0,1,0+1), 2x PATA 133/100/66, IEEE1394a, and USB2.0.
According to VIA the C7 processors have a performance gain of 80% over the previous C3 processors used in this style of mainboard which is achieved by their proprietary V4 bus used in the new CN700 chipset.
The 1.2GHz edition does not require a fan for cooling, whereas the 1.5Ghz does. With a maximum output of 21Watts the mainboard does generate some amount of heat.
The C7 Processor range also includes VIA’s Padlock security features, which include the following features in hardware, Secure Hash Algorithm, AES Encryption, Montgomery Multiplier, NX Execute Protection, Random Number Generator.
