Laplink ShareDirect Basic Edition Is Now Free

Posted on 28-Apr-2006 07:38 | Filed under: News

Laplink has announced that the basic version of its secure peer-to-peer file-sharing software ShareDirect, previously available online for US$39.95, is now available for free.

ShareDirect allows PC users to share files with other people straight from their desktops. Instead of emailing files back and forth, setting up a limited network, or placing important files on a third-party server, users retain control and ownership of their files and simply invite trusted contacts to view and download them from the designated folders.

The files never leave the safety of your hard drive until the owner invites someone to download them from you directly. All files are protected by 128-bit encryption, and can securely travel through existing firewall settings.

Home consumers can use ShareDirect to share photos, videos and any other multimedia files with groups of friends and family members. ShareDirect is also ideal for businesses that need to make documents and files of any type available to workgroups spread out across an office or even across the globe. ShareDirect can replace a network or intranet, or it can extend access to files beyond existing corporate networks, without disrupting network firewall security.
