Xtra Poll: New Zealands Top 50 Songs

Posted on 3-May-2006 00:18 by Tony Hughes | Filed under: News

Helping to celebrate New Zealand Music Month, New Zealands incumbent telco, Telecom New Zealand Ltd, is using its ISP division, Xtra to poll the country on the New Zealands top 50 songs of all time, and to declare a winner amongst them.

Chris Thompson Head of Xtra said he expects a large number and wide range of voters because the on-line voting is so quick and easy.

"This is an opportunity for those who are buying the music to have their say. New Zealand Music Month gets bigger and bigger every year and Kiwi music is thriving. Voting for your favourite song is a great way to be part of the celebrations," said Chris Thompson.

Music fans can list their five favourite songs in order of preference with each ranking allocated a number of points. The song with the greatest number of points will become the winner.

"Everyone has an opinion about what makes a great New Zealand song, I think this poll is going to start some fun debates around dinner tables and water coolers throughout New Zealand."

All those who vote will go into the draw to win up to 50 CDs featuring all 50 top songs.

Voting closes at midnight on 14 May 2006 and the results will be announced on 17 May 2006.
