Telecom New Zealand today welcomed the release of the State Services Commission’s report that concluded that neither Telecom nor its employee, Peter Garty were at fault in receiving a copy of the document outlining the government's plans to announce unbundling of the local loop (LLU) in the upcoming budget later this month.
Both Telecom and Mr Garty were passive recipients of the document, which they had not sought.
The State Services Commission report also concluded that when Mr Garty received a copy of the document he was placed in a compromised position and that he acted reasonably in seeking advice from Telecom's internal lawyers.
Telecom says the company co-operated totally with this inquiry and will co-operate fully with any further inquiry into the matter.
