VIA Announces New K8 Series Chipsets
VIA Technologies has announced their K8 series chipset solution which supports the new AMD AM2 socket and the Athlon 64 FX-62 and Athlon 62 X2 5000+ flagship processors.

The K8 series includes:
  • K8T900, supporting dual x8 PCI Express video cards or one x16 card and up to four x1 PCI Express slots
  • K8T890, only one x16 view card support and up to four x1 PCI Express slots
  • 8M890/K8N890, integrated graphics with Chrome9 and PCI Express slot for off board GPU

    These north bridge chips are then combined with the VT8251 south bridge chipset to off:
  • two x1 PCI Express connectors
  • four SATA 3.0Gb/s (SATAII) channels with VIA V-RAID
  • VIA Vinyl integrated high definition audio chip.

    The remainder of the new K8 series focus around support for AGP, DDR memory (not DDRII) and SATA 150 (SATA I) and other features associated with the VT8237R south bridge chipset.
