Microsoft has approved a plan to open a Microsoft office in Christchurch by late 2006. Helen Robinson, Managing Director, Microsoft New Zealand, believes that with existing offices currently in Wellington and Auckland, it makes good business sense to establish a presence in New Zealand’s second largest city.
According to the company, the move reflects the business opportunity and customer demand in this region which boasts having the third largest concentration of ICT companies in New Zealand.
Dr Rod Carr, Managing Director, Jade Software Corporation Ltd, based in Christchurch, comments: “Opening an office in the South Island enables Microsoft the opportunity to build stronger associations with its South Island customers, and to illustrate its commitment to establishing stronger ties with the local IT industry.”
“We expect that some of the staff will come from our existing offices, and we will also hire directly from the Christchurch market, allowing locals to have new opportunities in the IT industry that previously were only available in the North Island”, adds Robinson.
