Posted on 20-Sep-2006 20:00 | Tags Filed under: News

Motorola, Inc. and Symbol Technologies, Inc. have signed a definitive merger agreement, under which Motorola has agreed to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Symbol for US$15 per share in cash. The transaction will total approximately US$3.9 billion.

Symbol designs, develops, manufactures and services products and systems used in end-to-end enterprise mobility solutions featuring rugged mobile computing, advanced data capture, radio frequency identification (RFID), wireless infrastructure and mobility management.

Motorola says that this acquisition complements the company's vision to deliver "mobility solutions to the globe", strengthening the company breadth of product solutions and introducing an extensive array of experienced channel partners .

Upon completion of the transaction, Symbol will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola.
