Server-side support for ActiveSync is no longer an exclusive feature of Microsoft Exchange Server. Kerio Technologies Inc., has released a new version of Kerio MailServer that offers Direct Push e-mail for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs.
Users will be able to wirelessly synchronize their e-mail messages, calendar data, contacts, and tasks in their Kerio MailServer account with a Microsoft Windows Mobile-based device.
Support for mobile email in Kerio MailServer 6.3 is transparent and does not require users to install any additional software on their mobile devices. Likewise, Kerio MailServer does not require any additional third-party middleware to push e-mail, contacts and calendars to mobile users.
Kerio also addresses a big worry of IT administrators, those lost cell phones and a potential loss or leak of private company data.
Kerio MailServer supports the Remote Wipe functionality added to Windows Mobile through the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) allowing administrators to delete all data from a particular device linked to a company mail server.
As Remote Wipe is not available in older Windows Mobile phones, Kerio MailServer 6.3 offers its own alternative solution, called Smart Wipe, for older devices that lets administrators push alternate empty mailbox data to the phone thus erasing all emails and groupware information.
Kerio MailServer supports over-the-air synchronization for all versions of Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system developed for Pocket PC and Smartphones including Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition and the new Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU2.
With Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync built-in, Palm Treo 650 users can also directly sync up their corporate e-mail and calendars with Kerio MailServer.
