The Summer of Code is on in Wellington, and Geekzone is one of the sponsors for the event.
Google's Chris DiBona will talk at the Summer of Code at a special session sponsored by Geekzone. DiBona is Google's Open Source Manager, and famed for his work on community sites like Slashdot which he edited before joining the search engine giant. He is also the originator of Google's Summer of Code, the event that inspired the Wellington meet.
The Summer of Code is organised by Creative HQ, in partnership with Victoria and Massey Universities together with Positively Business Wellington and The Foundation of Research and Science Technology. It runs over the summer break for students, from November 2006 until February this year, and aims to provide real-world experience that will help coders to the start-up stage.
DiBona will speak on February 7 starting at 11.30am through 1pm. The session will take place at Victoria University in the Old Government Buildings, LT3 (Wellington).
