Telecom New Zealand introduces solar mobile phone charger
Telecom New Zealand has launched a portable solar charger from manufacturer Better Energy. The Solio is a small, lightweight, hybrid charger, which can use either solar energy or electricity to charge mobile phones and a range of other electric devices.

Telecom General Manager Consumer Marketing Kevin Bowler says as well as being environmentally friendly, the Solio is an ideal tool for Kiwis whose work and leisure activities take them off the beaten track.

The Solio charges from direct sunlight or natural light (taking up to 10 hours of direct sunlight to fully charge). It will then charge any mobile phone at the same rate as a conventional mobile phone charger.

A fully charged Solio will charge a mobile phone twice. After only one hour of charging in sunlight, the Solio has enough energy to provide up to 25 minutes of additional talk time.

The Solio can also be used to charge a wide range of mobiles, ipods and MP3 players. The Telecom-stocked Solio is boxed with tips for Sanyo, Nokia (2mm), Motorola & mini USB products.

Weighing only 156g and with a compact design, the Solio will be available with a suggested retail price of NZ$139.99.
