HTC brings enhanced OTA updates with Smith Micro device management software
Posted on 17-Sep-2007 22:34 | Filed under: News

Smith Micro Software, Inc. has signed a global licensing agreement with High Tech Computer ("HTC"), to preload and distribute the Insignia Mobile Device Management client on the next generation of HTC Smartphones for consumers and business users worldwide.

Through this agreement, HTC's Microsoft Windows Mobile based Smartphones will ship with Smith Micro's Insignia Open Management Client (OMC), enabling HTC to deliver a higher service level to expedite firmware updates and handset software application upgrades to its mobile devices to market over-the-air (FOTA).

“Our new relationship with HTC, a company known for its innovative mobile device products, validates the strength of our Insignia intelligent device management solution. We are pleased that our investment in the Insignia product line is delivering results so quickly,” said William W. Smith, Jr., CEO and President Smith Micro Software. “Smart devices are only valuable when they work right, and nothing can be more frustrating for HTC or its customer base than a mobile device that is not performing as designed.”

Smith Micro's Insignia Open Management Client (OMC) solution updates firmware on mobile phones already in the hands of users. It supports file updates, compressed image updates, and multiple sequential updates all in one package and is backed by a broad range of integrity checks to ensure the process is secure and 100% fault tolerant, even during power outages.

The inclusion of Smith Micro's Insignia Open Management Client in HTC’s Smartphones will enable IT departments and service providers to significantly save time and expense by running remote diagnostics, upgrading their own applications and core wireless firmware, adding new features and following evolving standards.
