The next week sees the start of Daylight Savings in New Zealand, a week earlier than originally scheduled, due to recent changes.
Because of the change to the Daylight Savings regime, some software issues may arise affecting calendar functions on computers and also in some cases on mobile devices.
Most mobiles will cope with the changed date without any problem, however some older models may be affected. Issues could include appointments being scheduled at the wrong time.
Vodafone New Zealand has set up a web page to help customers figure out whether their mobile will be affected, whether there is a solution and what to do if there is no software available.
“While we anticipate most customers will already have considered the issue and acted accordingly, there may be some who rely on their mobiles for calendar functionality and who are unaware of the issue. We would urge those customers to visit the website and assess their own level of exposure to this problem,” says Vodafone’s GM of Products and Services, Kursten Shalfoon.
Customers should also consider that Daylight Savings will extend for a further two weeks at the end of summer and customers will need to adjust their calendars again when Daylight Savings ends.
Vodafone is working with vendors to produce software patches where possible, however there may be no upgrade path for older handsets. Customers who are affected will need to contact Vodafone to work through the options available to them.
