Microsoft and Dell join (PRODUCT) RED campaign
Bono, Bill Gates and Michael Dell will be announcing that Dell and Microsoft are joining (RED) to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Microsoft's involvement in this project is called Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED.

Windows participation in the (PRODUCT) RED initiative means that, for every Dell (PRODUCT) RED PC running Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED, Microsoft and Dell make a financial contribution to The Global Fund.

The companies say no overhead is taken out of the funds contributed and 100% of the money contributed to (RED) goes to The Global Fund. Thus far, (RED) has put contributions to work in Swaziland, Rwanda and Ghana. Existing partiipant companies in this campaign include American Express, Motorola, Emporio Armani, and others.

Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED is available on Dell PCs bearing the (PRODUCT) RED color and etching and running Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED. Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED includes special wallpapers, Windows Sidebar gadgets, screensaver, and Windows DreamScene.

A new website will be launched with more details. Dell (PRODUCT) RED products include:

XPS One (PRODUCT) RED - The XPS One combines multimedia computing with high style, high-definition television and entertainment. Purchase contributes $80 to the Global Fund, which buys 6 months of antiretroviral medication.

XPS M1330 (PRODUCT) RED - With a starting weight of just under 4 pounds and featuring an ultra-thin 0.9-inch profile, the XPS M1330 notebook features a high-definition 13.3-inch display, full-sized keyboard, built-in Wi-Fi and optional mobile broadband wireless for connecting on the go. Purchase contributes $50 to the Global Fund, which buys nearly 4 months of antiretroviral medication.

XPS M1530 (PRODUCT) RED - The XPS M1530 is a sleek 15.4-inch notebook that is loaded with premium features like built-in webcam and fingerprint reader, and design accents like touch-sensitive multi-media buttons and brushed aluminum accents. Purchase contributes $50 to the Global Fund, which buys nearly 4 months of antiretroviral medication.

948 All-in-One Printer (PRODUCT) RED - The 948 printer features fax, scan, copy and print functions and photo printing options - available with or without connection to a computer. Purchase contributes $5 to the Global Fund, which buys more than ten days of antiretroviral medication).

Dell will be selling Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED PCs via a new website, which is slated to go live on 25 January. Outside the US, (PRODUCT) RED PCs should be available in-market in about two months.
