Telcotec launches filter to combat spam, porn and potential viruses on mobile networks
This is not a product to be installed by the end user. Instead, a mobile carrier will have it installed in their premisses, between the gateways that handle SMS, MMS and WAP. This way theproduct can monitor the content and block traffic of material deemed as dangerous.

The company lists the following features:

  • Automatic analysis of MMS images
  • Protection from unknown internet sources and from approved content providers
  • Actions available defined by the operator
    • choose cost of service
    • choose level of protection offered
    • multi-lingual messages can be sent to subscribers
  • Preferred actions defined by the subscriber
    • refuse all adult content
    • advice of content with choice to redirect to another device (mobile or web)
    • advice of content with choice to send text message only to another device (phone, mobile or email)
  • Subscriber can choose actions via WAP, web or through customer care
  • Analysis of images sent from:
    • Mail to mobile
    • Content provider to mobile
    • Mobile to mobile
    • External MMS or internet site to mobile

This can be a value-added service to filter and block the wave of spam SMS seen in some European countries?
