Dell Download Store is the first non-Microsoft consumer site authorized for popular downloads. People in the market for Microsoft Office and other titles from Microsoft now can save time and money by downloading popular software via the Dell Download Store.
Currently available for U.S. customers, the store include download versions of products such as Word, Excel and Outlook. The online store also features titles from companies such as McAfee, Intuit, CA and Webroot.
The company is launching the new online service with reduced prices. For example, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007- one of the top-selling software titles in the U.S. - is priced at US$129.99 compared with the suggested retail price of US$149.99.
If Dell Download Store customers need to reload software on a new PC or to resolve problems such as a crashed hard drive, they can log in to their “digital locker” and download previously purchased titles at no extra charge.
Launched in January 2009, about 10,000 people on average visit the Dell Download Store each week.
“With everyday savings plus on-demand access, the Dell Download Store addresses our customers’ two main concerns: price and immediacy. In addition, downloading is a more environmentally friendly way to purchase and distribute software because there’s no need for packaging material.” -- Geoff Surkamer, general manager, Dell Global Digital Distribution.
