Before Web 2.0, Social Media and privacy worries, there were LAN parties and network gaming and all was good.
Luckily, you can still sample True Geek Culture and have a great time doing it - Auckmageddon 5 is rapidly approaching.
This year's installment comes six years after A4, with organiser Richard Patterson saying his crew decided to "drag the old girl out of retirement" for a weekend of delectable gaming on August 27 to 29.
Like its predecessors, A5 will be held at North Harbour Stadium in Albany that's here on Google Maps:
Richard says the main Level 1 of the events centre will be turned into a giant LAN from lunchtime Friday until noon Sunday. Expect gaming tournaments, spot prizes, ad-hoc gaming and the usual silliness for a whole bunch of fun, with room for 500 people all in all.
A chill out room upstairs, equipped with an R18 bar and Boosh FM DJs is also supplied for Auckmageddon A5 participants.
This year, Cisco, Microsoft, Orcon, Vector, Demon Energy, Compulink, Blitz and Boosh FM have all kindly come to the Auckmageddon A5 party as sponsors.
Requirements to take part are:
PC & Monitor
LAN cable >10metres
Headphones (optional, but no speakers allowed)
Powerboard (preferably without RCD)
Each attendee will be allocated 1x power socket to plug their powerboard into. No daisy chaining allowed.
Tickets are $85, and can be bought at the Auckmageddon website.
