Sacking by SMS is not acceptable in Australia

Posted on 22-May-2003 18:10 | Filed under: News

According to this article from the Sydney Morning herald (SMH), JNI Traffic Control sacked an employee - via SMS.

"What happened to the old-fashioned letter, or talking in person. Some things are not appropriate. It should be perfectly obvious to all and sundry," she said.

While Mr Eid's industrial advocate said the method of dismissal was "undignified and humiliating", Commissioner Bishop commented it was equally inappropriate for employees to use SMS for important communication. "I have had SMS sent by employees to employers and I have been very critical," she said.".
