Samsung launches new Android-powered Galaxy S smartphone in New Zealand
Samsung Electronics New Zealand has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S. The slim 9.9mm Galaxy S is packed with an over-sized 4.0” Super AMOLED display (800 x 480 pixels), 1GHz processor, fast mobile data transfer and a 8GB memory expandable to 32GB.

“The Samsung Galaxy S is a revolution in our ongoing commitment to broaden the smartphone market by bringing exceptional mobile experiences to as wide an audience as possible,” says Stefan Lecchi, Head of Samsung Mobile New Zealand.

“Whether you want to connect with friends and family on social networks, write texts and emails at rapid speeds, experience thousands of applications or read eBooks, browse the internet or play games while on the go, the Samsung Galaxy S is likely to surpass your expectations – welcome to Smart Life.”

The heart of the Galaxy S is the powerful 1GHz application processor and four-inch Super AMOLED touch screen, immersing users in a world of high definition multimedia. Samsung’s Super AMOLED display delivers incredibly bright and clear screen quality, with wide viewing angles.

“With the powerful processor and amazing screen the Samsung Galaxy S provides a true revolution to touch screen smartphones. Customers will immediately notice the clarity and speed of responsiveness, making the Samsung Galaxy S a pleasure to use.”

Packaged with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 user-interface (UI), this smartphone creates the perfect environment to record, edit and play HD video. You can even beam this to your Wi-Fi capable TV, browse the Internet, play games and read your favorite eBooks, or even set up a Wi-Fi hot-spot and have up to five users, using your Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi hot spot.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S includes a range of intelligent features and applications such as SWYPE. Rather than typing letters individually, simply swipe your finger across the keyboard from letter to letter, making texting on a touchscreen phone quicker and easier than on conventional mobile phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S also introduces Samsung Social Hub, an integrated messaging solution, which brings all your contacts, calendars and social networks together in one place. This easy and intuitive hub integrates contact information and activities across Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, email and instant messenger accounts and allows you to see your friends’ recent history, status updates or posts and even access their latest photo albums all from your phonebook contacts list.

Samsung Social Hub also integrates your calendars from applications such as Facebook and Microsoft Outlook, storing all of your events and meetings in one place.

“Social Hub dramatically improves customers’ ability to keep in-touch with friends, family, and colleagues how they want - email, text, Facebook, Twitter, corporate email, video conference, or simply making a call. It is all about simplifying customers’ communications needs – and you can now access all the information in one place”, Mr Lecchi says.

The Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) operates in 2.5G mobile networks (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) and 3G mobile networs (HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz). In addition to mobile networks, the Samsung Galaxy S can also connect to USB v2.0 (High-Speed), Bluetooth v.3 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

It comes with Android 2.1, a builtin 5.0 mega-pixel camera + VGA video telephony camera with Auto Focus, Self shot, Action shot, Add me, Stop motion, Cartoon shot, Smile shot, and Panorama shot.

The device can play HD video 720p @30fps, using the Mpeg4, H.264, H.263, DivX, XviD codecs in a variety of formats, including 3gp (mp4), WMV (asf), AVI (divx), MKV, FLV.
