Jade appoints new research associate

Posted on 9-Mar-2011 17:55 | Filed under: News

Jade Software today announced a key appointment as the company prepares to launch another product under the JOOB brand. The product, JOOB Intelligence will extend Jade’s reach into the high growth, real-time advanced analytics market.
Joining the company as research associate is Dr Brent Martin, Senior Lecturer for the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Canterbury.

Dr Martin leads the University’s computational intelligence research lab. His research interests are in artificial intelligence and machine learning. His collaboration with Jade – which will see him spending approximately 60% of his time with the company – will focus on extending Jade’s operational intelligence capability.

With an impressive research output, experience from more than a dozen commercial projects as well as six months at Google as a visiting research scholar, Brent will be a welcome addition to the team, says Jade Managing Director Craig Richardson.

“Brent will add tremendous value and knowledge to the development of our JOOB Intelligence product. We expect to launch later in the year, and are targeting demanding users like banks, telecos, intelligence and defence agencies wishing to analyse large volumes of data in real-time. They may be developing pattern based strategies, building tribal marketing campaigns, predicting customer churn, detecting fraud or monitoring suspicious activities,” says Richardson.

The research associate position is in collaboration with the NZ ICT Innovation Institute (NZi3). Jade will partially fund Dr Martin’s research from its recent Government technology grant.

Roger Jarquin, Jade Chief Technology Officer, who is in charge of this R&D initiative, says; “Jade has a long history of collaboration with Brent and other academics in the application of intelligent agents to optimisation problems.

“This agreement with the University will allow us to take that collaboration to the next level to integrate the technologies with our own products to take to market.”

JOOB Intelligence will be the third next-generation product Jade releases in 2011, with JOOB Data Store released in January and a smartphone integration product JOOB Mobile due for launch in April. JOOB Mobile will be showcased at Microsoft TechEd to be held in Atlanta, Georgia in May.
