XDA Hack: create your own XDA ROM
XDA-Developers.com decided to study the internals of a XDA. They've got so much knowledge, they decided to rewrite it. A new XDA ROM with added functionality.

"We feel this ROM is the coolest thing you could possibly run on this device, and we feel it should replace any and all ROMs currently in circulation as the default ROM to upgrade to for all HTC Phone Edition users. Our Special Edition ROM is based on the new O2 4.17.03 ROM, and contains all almost all of its features (except maybe some annoying ones) plus a lot more. Since the O2 ROM we based our ROM on is copyrighted, we cannot distribute the new ROM. So instead, we distribute the tools to make your own if you just add an O2 image."

The new ROM includes tools like SIMUnlocker, AutoConfig, and some freeware, like Total Commander, ftxPBrowser, Screen Capture, PocketCMD and VxUtil.

There's a catch though: because they know they're not allowed to redistribute the software, the set of files is provided, but the user needs to have access to a ROM Image (which one can extract from the XDA). The tricky part is a Unix box is needed to run the utilities to create this image.

If you're brave enough, have a look in the full article. Note that we haven't tested this. It may not work well with your particular device, or cause it to go into limbo!
