Can anyone clarify whether or not the i-mate SP3 (HTC Typhoon etc) can act as a fax modem for a laptop (eg via Bluetooth)? I understand this would require the 'phone to be able to accept TS62 traffic (voice is TS11). I can't find anything in the specs as to whether the SP3 has this capability; I have done some experiments without success. Vodafone New Zealand have provided very little information or support so far. There is negligible technical information on their NZ web site about this. The SP3 was purchased from one of their Vodafone-branded outlets.
Vodafone NZ provide a faxMail service (with which my Vodafone service has been provisioned):
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/services/07.a.10_faxmail.jsp
but this provides only for receiving faxes into a Vodafone mailbox, and then later forwarding them to another fax number by issuing instructions to voiceMail.
To actually receive (or send) faxes on a fax connected to the Vodafone NZ network (eg a laptop) requires an additional mobile fax [dataFax] number (with which my Vodafone service has been provisioned) on the Vodafone NZ network:
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/business/10.2.1.7_mobile_data.jsp?item=mobiledata
(near the end).
(The Vodafone NZ faxMail service seems more primitive than faxMail provided by eg Vodafone Ireland, which allows faxes to be read on their webmail, and we do not seem to have fax messaging via text messaging available as Vodafone UK provides.)
Thanks.
