Rang the Panasonic help number yesterday to ask when Panasonic plasma's will incorporate Freeview tuners - answer: they are on their way to NZ right now. Should be in the shops by the end of the month.

As previously posted by others, got to say Panasonic has an excellent helpdesk (so long as the info is correct ;-)

New model is same as the PY800 spec-wise but will labeled as: PZ850

yes they are suppose to be very good. picture engine is same as PY800 though. though personally i think tuners built in TVs(Sony range) they are very weak. i saw a side by side comparison of freeview from a setup box and freeview through built in tuner on same tvs, the setup box produced much better picture.

Don't think a 'weak' tuner is going to affect picture in a digital world. Seem more more likely there are differences in signal handling and scaling.

Sounds like both Sony and Panasonic are up with the play unlike Samsung who are just releasing their new Series 6 TVs without a DTT tuner. How backward can you get..

Only series 6 coming to asia pacific dont have tuners if you look at specs on cnet.com it has ATSC DVB-T

These are already in the country, I saw them last weekend at Harvey Norman in Henderson. RRP was $5499 but there was no indication of a 'discounted' price that HN normally place on their sets.

Overseas the PZ850 seems to have a few extra image processing 'bits' but I am not sure if these are carried over to the NZ models.

i personally think series 6 is a hype. i saw the motion on it and it isnt even good as their old F series. but thats lcd. but panasonics py or pz the motion on it looks real though it does 480 subfield drive. and the good thing they have done is by adding the subfield drive 24P on all models of plasma entry level to top level.

While at HN yesterday trying to buy 42py800, the salesman rang Panasonic - the 42pz850 will be in stock mid september, RRP $4200.

Thats a rude price difference for what looks like only the inclusion of a digital tuner. The difference in price back to the 800 is $1000 - freeviewhd box is only $400..

Ah but that is RRP of the new model vs street for the old model. Wait and see what the real price will be.
