Hi there,

I'm looking for some opinions on cheap LCD TVs currently available on the market. I've seen several models like Soeya, Celestial, Yuhua, they seem reasonable value for money. Has anybody had any experience with any of those?

There are only a couple of LCD panel manufacturers and all the electronics are much the same. So a cheap LCD can be as good as an expensive 'brand' LCD. I have a 26" 'no name' purchased from Harvey Norman and it is absolutely fine. Great picture - nice and bright. The actual panel is a Samsung.

Does it have a computer input? DVI? HDMI? And what resolution does it have?
How much did you pay for it?
(Just for comparison)

Its a 480i/480p with VGA, composite and DVI. The brand is 'MyVision' and I think we paid about $2900 for it 12 months ago which was a good deal at the time. Ex demo I think which is why it was on special.

Yeah it doesnt matter what brand the TV is as long as the panel is good.

Anonym, check out these LCD TVs (and their price tags!), they have quality Samsung and LG panels

I have found that cheap LCD screens need to be approached with caution. As a guide I would check the viewing angle and the contrast. Also check the update speed. If it is slow you will get motion blur. Go and look at a Sony Bravia or grand wega. Compare the quality of picture to the cheap brands and you will see the difference. Hyundai has a nice bright lcd screen out at a reasonable price. Also check the controls The volume for example does not work very well on cheap models. it should be logrythmic. On the cheap LCDs and CRT tvs the sound tends to be linear meaning there is a substantial change at low volumes per step and not much when the volume is high. Not very good for night time viewing when the partners asleep. ;-)
Save up Buy a Sony or wait and I am sure the prices will drop even further by the end of the year.

'My vision' LCD TV has great viewing angle and very good sound. I guess not all cheap LCDs are junk.

I finally made up my mind bought an LCD-TV - 37" Celestial from http://www.lcd-tv.co.nz
They had special prices and the quality was good - comparable with other big-brand LCDs, so i went for it.
I'm happy with the product and i'm glad i didn't have to pay extra $2k for a different label on the TV.

I was comparing LCD with Plasma TV for a 32-40".
things I was looking at were

Brightness
Resolution
Contrast ratio
refresh rate
Viewing angle

I am sold on LCD after reading this article

Anything else I should be worried about not considered here?

Any good model you guys recommend (sorry not the cheap ones.. its a $4000 investment.. my criteria 1) if you need performance and luxury of a Merc, why would you buy a Honda? 2) support and warranty issues)

Oh forgot to mention I Dont have SKY.. in near future may be...
This TV would be for DVD, Xbox movies (not games.. downloaded avi files etc) and some Vid Cam/digital cam input
I am also considering DLP, Sony 42" is only $2799 but only 8000 hr lamp life? Avg 4hrs of TV watching for 5 yrs, its good in'it?
HDMI and PC input preferred...
Samsung SP42L6H looks good too
Any thoughts on this?
